Features Watson Ellison Foundation
Watson-Ellison Foundation (WEF) is a non-profit organization to raise public awareness for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) throughout the community.
Alzheimer’s disease causes the brain to undergo atrophy and subsequently leading to neuronal death.
Alzheimers disease is currently ranked as the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, but recent estimates indicate the disorder may rank third, just behind heart disease and cancer, as a cause of death for older people.
Approximately 5.8 million people in the United States age 65 and older live with Alzheimers disease.
Of those, 80% are 75 years old and older.
Out of the approximately 50 million people worldwide with dementia, between 60% and 70% are estimated to have Alzheimers disease.
WEF was created with the sole purpose to create awareness among the general public about this disease.
